LEONARDO

PA’INA, HAWAII

Suddenly, Pietro’s number flashed across my phone screen. My brother was in Saint Petersburg, Russia hidden deep in his compound. If there was anyone who could infiltrate a place it was him. He had the patience of a saint and was perfect at intelligence gathering. He wasn’t shaken often, and he always kept a level head.

“What's happening?” I asked as I sat down on the bed.

A sense of apprehension flowed over me. I had a feeling I wasn’t going to like what he said.

“Ioakim went crazy when he opened the blanket and saw Isaak's head. He shot two of his men then stormed out. I lost him for about four hours when he left the compound.”

“He's at his mistress’s house. I have men outside of there watching him.”

His deep voice ceased and he shuffled his position. Wherever he was in Ioakim’s mansion, he was hidden well. Anything could happen and I was ready for him to get out of there.

“You have the information, now get out of there. Don’t worry about retaliation, I know that soon he will strike at us.”

“Hold on. I'm getting an update.”

The silence didn’t bode well for me. War was always bloody and the last thing I needed was my brothers letting their guard down. We had a lot going on right now, and we had to stay prepared for everything.

“Damn. That asshole blew up six of our banks. I don't know which six but if I had to guess, he blew up our largest banks. That means we have a loss of about ten billion dollars. I'm going to kill him. It would be easy to slip inside his mistress’s house and kill them both.”

Shaking my head, I contained my anger. “Killing him won’t be that easy. They are expecting us to try something. Trust me, they are prepared. I want you to go to New York and assess the damage. Those six banks were closed for upgrade. At least no innocents were killed.

I bit my tongue until blood flowed into my mouth. The vein throbbed in my head, and walked over to my safe, and opened it. Taking a small prescription bottle out, I popped two blood pressure pills in my mouth. I didn’t need to measure my blood pressure to know that I was at stroke level.

“We'll recuperate. Death is permanent but losing money isn't. We can make it back. You know how this goes. We came from nothing and like the Phoenix we’ll rise again.”

“Fine. I’ll head there now.”

“Don’t lie to me. Don't do anything drastic or take any chances. “Brother, watch your back. Call me as soon as you've verified which banks, they were. Also, keep that piece of shit under surveillance. I have a feeling this is just the beginning.”

My ears twitched. He was on the move. His steps were silent but I could pick up slight differences in his breathing. I remained silent, determined to wait until he spoke again. I was ready for Ioakim to leave Russia.
